Cutting tools in industry
Cutting tools are used in most industries on a wide range of applications. Used to drill, cut, saw and shape most materials; in particular metals.
Engineers may not know from one day to the next what problems they are likely to encounter. They need cutting tools that can cope with a wide variety of applications.
Not having the correct cutting tool can lead to extended down time and lost production.
Benefits of our patented Cryotools
Cryotools dramatically outperform non-cryo treated tools. How? We FREEZE them!
The Cryophase process realigns the molecular structure of the tool, therefore:
- It cuts longer
- Has greater torsional strength
- Greater flexibility than untreated products
Longer tool life reduces downtime and setup costs by up to 50%!
How does it work?
Heat treatment changes the molecular structure of steel by transforming Austenite (soft steel) into Martensite (hard steel).
The Cryophase process enhances conventional heat treatment by cryogenically cooling the steel to -170°C. This converts the soft Austenite into hard Martensite. It also forms carbide particles which fill microscopic gaps in the metal structure and increase wear resistance.
Our Cryophase treatment increases Martensite and creates carbide ‘fillers’ to improve wear resistance, toughness and tool life.
